Skincare 101: The Difference Between Face Serum, Face Oil, Moisturiser

· Health and Beauty

Having good skincare is one of the most important things you can do for protecting your skin and keep it healthy and glowy. Practice shows that the right routine and products will help you keep it in the perfect condition. Even those who have poor and bad skin texture can improve their look by taking proper and good care of it.

While it’s true that the bad texture of your skin is closely related to the life you lead, the food you eat and your hormones, still, there’s a way to keep it in good condition and the first and most important thing is hydration. Keeping your skin moisturised and hydrated throughout the day can significantly reduce the chances of any breakouts and wrinkles which is of vital importance for women of all ages.

Hydration and moisturising products have come a long way, and even though it may sound complicated and too time-consuming, the truth is that the road to having good skincare will only take 10 – 15 minutes of your time per day. Half of this time is spent in the morning applying your morning face skincare products and the rest is at night for cleaning your face and applying night skincare products.

The Most Common Skincare Products

Speaking of skincare, are you familiar with the most basic and essential skincare combo and how to apply it?! If not, now is the right time to do it. The choice is huge, and choosing the right natural skin serum, oil and/or moisturiser is a piece of cake only if you know your skin type. The right product will make your skin radiant.

Face Serum

Face serum

The most important product you should have in your skincare set is a natural skin serum designed to repair and treat skin at a cellular level while targeting specific skincare problems. It's a lightweight liquid solution that contains some active ingredients which can help feed and repair the skin from within. Aside from the active ingredient, these serums usually contain a whole army of other beneficial ingredients that can help you fight ageing, blemishes, scarring and pigmentation. Serums are great for fighting pigmentation and wrinkles caused by the sun. They are perfect for giving your skin deep hydration, improving its texture, elasticity and reducing any signs of wrinkles, redness and blemishes. Regardless of the type of face serum you use, you should apply it on clean damp skin before the moisturiser. Different types of serums should be applied at different times of the day and even week, some of them can’t be mixed with one another, so you should better do thorough research or even better, consult a dermatologist or pharmacist to understand which serum to apply AM or PM and how to mix them.

Moisturiser

While face serums are here to reduce and remove any skin problem, moisturisers are here to keep your skin well-protected and hydrated. A moisturiser should be applied after serum application in order to lock up everything and maintain healthy skin. Moisturisers are perfect for keeping the skin well-protected from damaging environmental stress like sun exposure, air pollution, heating, wind, etc.

Moisturisers are recommended to be used for all skin types, and the water-based one is perfect for summer and those with oily skin. In winter, it would be better to provide your skin with more hydration by choosing a heavier moisturiser. Regardless of the type you choose a good moisturiser should be able to immediately absorb in the skin leaving it soft, supple and ready for the next step which is usually makeup application.

Face Oil

Face oil

Well, the purpose of oils is not to make your face oily and glowing like Christmas lights, but the contrary, the purpose of facial oils is to strengthen, nourish and balance your skin. They’re considered a type of emollient that can strengthen the outer layer of the skin while providing it with the needed components to nourish it and improve its condition. Generally speaking, a quality, vegan and natural facial oil should be made of non-comedogenic, botanical and nourishing essential oils that won’t clog the pores. In other words, these oils are designed to provide hydration without leaving any greasy residue on the skin’s surface.

By choosing a quality and natural oil, you’ll stock yourself with a powerful weapon that could provide your skin with the needed anti-ageing antioxidants, vitamins and minerals that’ll keep your skin in perfect condition. These oils can be applied both during the morning and evening routine after the moisturiser. It only takes a few drops of it to help you cover your face and décolletage.

Usually, it’s recommended to choose a set from the same line of products in order to reap its benefits. Regardless of the types of products you plan to include in the set, what matters the most is to choose ones that are natural, skin and face-friendly.
