Bridal Accessories 101: Look Elegant and Classy on Your Big Day

· weddings

Every woman has been imagining and planning her wedding since she was a little girl. Picturing your perfect wedding dress, your favourite location, emotional vows and the best partner on the planet. This is the most important day in your life and you and everyone else around you should make it unforgettable. After choosing your wedding dress and shoes, it's time for accessories. Earrings, necklaces, bracelets or hair accessories can complete the look and make you feel like a real bride. Small things can make a huge difference so choose your accessories wisely.

Earrings

Choosing your earrings may not be as easy as you think. There are so many different options when it comes to sizes, lengths, shapes, colours and designs. There are a few guiding points you should follow to make sure you get the bridal earrings design that will give you that “wow” factor you deserve. The starting point should be your dress.

If you have a dress with a high neckline, elegant drop earrings would look amazing. Depending on what material the dress is made of you can go with simple drop pearls, or diamond-shaped ones or add a pop of colour with some emeralds or rubies. The colour will give you a gentle royal flare. If you want to keep it simple, tear-shaped or plain circle earrings will lengthen your neck.

Halter necklines are a true visual eye-catcher because of how beautifully they frame your shoulders. Drop earrings of a short to medium length will tie everything together beautifully. Of course, consider the gown's fabric and pick the appropriate bling for the earring. Statement earrings will look the loveliest with a lower, off-the-shoulder neckline.

Thanks to the open neck you have plenty of opportunities with the earrings’ form and size. You can go for some classy, long crystal chandelier earrings, or a pair that has a floral drop at the end. If you want to feel romantic, chic and elegant, big sparkly diamonds or some simple tassels will do the job just right.

Your special day shouldn’t be the time to leave your ears bare. There's a pair of earrings for every dress, hairstyle, skin tone, face shape and style. It doesn’t matter if they’re designer earrings or something you find on a budget. Make sure they’re comfortable on your ears, and not too heavy because you’ll be wearing them all day. Remember, you’re the bride, and everything you wear will not go unnoticed by everyone in the room.

Tiara

Going back through the years, tiaras have been a favourite among brides all over the world for a very long time. Your wedding day is probably the only occasion where wearing one is justified (unless you’re royalty of course). The tiara, combined with the right dress, has the power to make you feel like a real-life process. And you have so much to choose from, elegant and delicate, small and sparkly and big, bold and glamorous.

The wishbone tiara is very vintage style. It wraps around your head and just above the crown of your head, it rises to a point to create a perfect finish. It can work with an updo or a loose hairstyle. The double band is a simple, yet effective accessory that can work perfectly with any bridal earrings design. It's basically 2 semicircular bands around your head that are decorated with crystals.

If you want a bun for your wedding, you can go with the bun wrap. This is a type of tiar that you wear at the back of your head, wrapped around your high bun. If your dress is romantic and elegant, a wreath is one of the best choices you can make. It's an asymmetrical accessory that looks like intertwined vines or flowers with leaves and it’s decorated with pearls or crystals.

If you want to keep it simple for a beach, or summer wedding, a headband is a way to go. It's a very simple design that allows for just one statement crystal flower or some other ornament attached to it. If you want to feel like a true queen and shine bright on your wedding day, a regal tiara will be a perfect choice. It's bigger, higher and heavily decorated.

Veil

Right after the dress, the veil is probably the second most traditional bridal wear of all time. It's memorable, and timeless and can make you feel wonderful on your big day. A long, plain white veil is probably the first thing that comes to mind when you think about this accessory. But nowadays, designers have created a plethora of modern veils for every style.

They're embellished with pearls, sequins, diamonds, and detailed embroidery and some even have a pop of colour on them. From short, just above the shoulder length, to an extremely long, statement veil, you can find anything your heart desires. The blusher is one of the most traditional designs that fall forward and covers your face.

The bouffant was very popular in the 60s and it’s still on the top of the list for some brides. It's simple and works perfectly for brides with short hair. Lengthwise, it falls down to the shoulders. The fingertip veil reaches your fingertips and goes no more than that. It's very versatile and can complement any type of dress you might have.

The waltz veil is longer, goes down to the floor and looks very elegant. If you want to turn it up a notch and make a statement, choose the cathedral veil. It's more than 3.5m long and adds class and elegance to your look. But remember to have someone behind you to assist you with walking and taking photographs. And last but certainly not least, is the royal veil. It tops everyone with its 4.5m in length. It's mostly worn in big spaces where it won’t get in the way of the bride and the guests.

Cover Ups

Cover ups are perfect for a winter wedding. Besides being warm and comfortable, they can also add some style to your look. A cape or shawl with feathers will be ideal for a wintery look and will make you feel like an angel. Complement it with some matching bridal earrings, and you’ll get a beautiful coherent look.

A leather jacket is becoming one of the most popular choices nowadays. It can be a personalised, custom-made design that brings out your personality and enhances the overall look. Plus, you can keep on wearing it after your wedding day. Capes have the power to make you look elegant, sophisticated and royal. They show your fashion sense and can have gorgeous, embroidered patterns that have a special charm.
